Coordinates: 18°50’24.47″ N 98°53’53.76″ E
Surrounded by the forest of the famous Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, this nang phya sua khrong site is a highland agriculture research station of Chiang Mai University. It is easy to get to since it is close to the city, just a short drive further from the park’s Doi Pui camping ground and a kilometre or so before Khun Chang Khian Hmong village.
In fact, there are other spots for seeing ‘Thai Sakura’, but Khun Chan Kian is the one that stays closest to Chian Mai downtown. The tourists amount is increasing every year. This clearly proof that Thai plants are beautiful as much as Japanese’s. However, remember that Nang Phaya Sua Krong trees only give flowers in winter, which won’t last long. Therefore, if you don’t want to waste your trip, you should check the information before you go, in order to realise whether the flowers are blooming or not.
Don’t forget to take a camera with you too. You don’t see gorgeous flowers like this everyday. So, you may want to take a few snaps.
In fact, Khun Chang Kian is the area of Research Centre and Agricultural Training Centre, which also offers shelters for tourists. But, the shelters are limited. You have to book one quickly. Anyway, Khun Chang Kian may not have luxury attractions, but it’s absolutely a good place to go if you want to take a long vacation. You will enjoy sleeping in the middle of mountains, waking up in the morning to see pink flowers all around you like cotton candy.
